At Maxwell Heights Secondary School, the yearbook is created
by students, for students.

Each year, a group of Grade 11 and Grade 12 Yearbook students design a completely new book from start to finish — choosing the theme, capturing the photos, and designing every page.

Yearbook is a creative, hands-on course where students build skills in photography, design, writing, and teamwork while helping to preserve the memories of the school year.

The course codes are TGG 3M1 and TGG 4M1. There is no prerequisite to take the Grade 11 course, however students do need a Grade 11 credit to take the Grade 12 course. These can be any one of the following: TGJ 3M1 (comm tech), TGP 3M1 (photography) or TGG 3M1 (yearbook).

It takes a very dedicated and creative group to bring our yearbook to life each year.
Every school year a team of Maxwell Heights students volunteers their time, talent, and energy to capture the moments that define our school.
Roles on the team include Creative Director, Art Director, Director of Photography, Graphic Designers, and Copy Writers — each contributing their unique skills to make the book truly stand out.

Without their passion, creativity, and teamwork, our yearbook simply wouldn’t be what it is.
What do students say about being in the Yearbook class?

"Being able to take the yearbook course has opened the door to so many other opportunities and ways to grow within photography. It helps create an understanding for each photographer and editor and what they want in their vision, as well as serving as a way to tell their story through still photos, while learning new components along the way. I would recommend this course to others as it serves a purpose of artistic expression through photo that is taken, edited, and exported into the yearbook, being able to contribute to a full project with your work exclusively in it."
– Shad A.
"What I really like about the yearbook course is the creativity and collaboration that's put into it from every single person, this course could not run without these amazing people!" – Miley G.

"What I enjoy about [yearbook] is how it helps me expand my understanding in graphic design, especially when creating a product for purchase. This was important to me because [it] allowed me to expand my knowledge in this area. I would recommend this to anyone since it gives you experience in photography and design and also allows you to collaborate with others in a professional setting." – Aliya A.

"Yearbook has taught me how much effort goes into capturing memories. It’s helped me build the skills needed in writing, figuring out the right layout, and teamwork. The course has helped me learn how to see things through other perspectives constantly being exposed to new creative elements. Overall It’s something that I'm proud to be a part of and so grateful for!!" – Amoi C.
